SEAT sales jumped 36% in Germany and Austria in 2009
•  The Company sold 336,000 vehicles worldwide, down 8.6% from 2008 •  Spain’s market share remained stable despite downturns in the sector •  The UK, France, Czech Republic and Mexico also posted a rise in registrations
SEAT’s sales rose sharply in 2009 in Germany (by 36.1% to 56,182 units) and Austria (by 36.6% to 14,252 units). However, worldwide sales of the Spanish brand totaled 336,000 units, which is 8.6% down from the previous year. Although Spain is its main market, the net figure was 18% lower than the year before. Despite this, SEAT maintained its market share of 8.7% in Spain.
New car registrations also went up in the UK and France, two of Spain’s other main markets, where sales reached 29,987 (up 2.0%) and 36,753 units (up 0.6%) respectively. Another increase was seen in the Czech Republic, with a total of 2,535 cars registered (+4.1%). Outside Europe, sales increased dramatically in Mexico, with an increase of 19.3%, or a total of 15,588 new car registrations.
